The DIS Serowe branch were shocked to learn that they are being disconnected because of outstanding water bills last week, as uncompromising WUC employees walked in determined to disconnect the office.
However following the breaking of the news by a government news portal, the Director of DIS, Isaac Kgosi told The Monitor that the misunderstanding which he said could have been avoided, stemmed from the outstanding bills of the District Comissioner’s office’s account, which his organisation inherited.
“ The DIS, like all other security organs in the country, have a way of settling their utilities bill; the utilities are settled collectively by the headquarters, I am sure, all utilities providers are aware of that; but what happened in Serowe, I am told is not as dramatic as you would want to put it;
We received a report that the WUC people came and expressed their intention to disconnect the water, where upon, they were advised to wait for the regional manager to return and have a word with him”, Kgosi said in a phone interview.
Kgosi added that if his organisation was in the habit of defaulting on utilities, incidents such as the Serowe one would be common;
“It is an isolated incident that we hope it will be resolved with the relevant stakeholders,” Kgosi said.
