Moswaane encourages mob justice

While in Botswana it is considered a serious crime to take the law in to your own hands, Moswaane believes that it is the right way to discipline criminals who continue to terrorise communities.
The disgruntled MP alluded that many criminals go unpunished or when charged with a crime, they only serve one to two months behind bars and are left to work the streets freely to commit more crimes.
“ I say teach those culprits a lesson before handing them to the authorities, we are sick and tired of those criminals that still walk the streets with pride after causing harm to people,” he said. Moswaane also said that he would fight to see that criminal laws are tightened. He noted that he would see to it that theft criminals are charged like rapists and serve ten years behind bars.
He also urged the residents to refrain from buying stolen goods as they are promoting theft.
“When one is found with those goods they are liable to a fine not less than P2000, 00 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months or both,” he said.
Monarch South Customary Court President, Gunny Moses, said that he was concerned with the increased murder cases in his area, adding that although he could not verify the statistics, it was a common crime in his area.
“This year we have already buried two people who have been killed in Monarch and this is mostly done by our children who are never reported,” he said.
He also decried moral decay in the city, pointing out that there were still a number of people that still illegally sell liquor in their household mostly Chibuku adding that day in and out he receives assault reports that took place in those areas (dipoto).
