Invited guests, media and FNBB staff together with the Minister braved the cold winter breeze during a barefooted walkathon. The FNBB Foundation used the walkathon to illustrate the plight of primary school pupils across the country who attend school barefooted because they do not have school shoes.  “Growing up, I was one of those children who had no school shoes and had to go through what you just experienced today. Some of our children, especially in the rural areas walk distances of up to ten kilometres barefooted each day to get to school. My ministry applauds and supports this initiative by the FNBB Foundation to get shoes for all primary school pupils in Botswana,”said Hon.Minister Botlogile Tshireletso.

The FNBB Foundation donated over 3,500 shoes to 14 primary schools worth P450, 000.00. Beneficiary schools on the day were; Xaixai; Xere; Lepokole; Khekhenye; Sekhutlane; Bere; Matlhako; Moineedi; Ntshe; Mpiti; Jackalas 1; Ipeleng; Ralekgetho; and Camp Primary School. The Winter Drive will become an annual event with Hon. Tshireletso’s ministry assisting with advising on schools to benefit from the initiative each year.

“The FNBB Foundation continues to assist projects that uplift and enrich the lives of communities within which the Bank operates. FNBB contributes up to 1 percent of its after tax profits to the Foundation annually, to-date, the Foundation has invested more than P30 million in various projects across the country”
