The world-class facility is expected to provide a conducive working environment for competitive service delivery and improved customer satisfaction.

Speaking during the launch last week, DHL Express Vice President Operations (Sub Saharan Africa), Oliver Facey, said the new facility would ensure that the organisation is now poised for enhanced productivity and efficiency through quicker sorting and more streamlined package management systems.

“Our facility has a P2.2 million conveyor belt plus accessories which form the core of the direct loading system. The direct loading facility is one of the few rolled out in Sub Saharan Africa and is currently the second after South Africa,” he said.

He added that complementary to the loading facility is the retro-fitted vehicles, which has the state of art security, ensuring customers’ assets and shipments are protected.

For his part, the Minister of Trade and Industry Vincent Seretse said the launch is an indication that the country is aiming for the next level of maturity in economic diversification through the services sector.

He said that the private sector should be the engine of growth and drive the diversification of the national economy.

“Transport logistics is a globally competitive service sector which has growth potential through a vibrant and globally competitive market led by the global private sector,” he said.

According to Seretse, goods and services that comply with local and international standards, develop an entrepreneurship culture and enhance citizen participation in the economy.

“Achievement of these will ensure the noble aspirations of employment creation, wealth creation, poverty eradication, industrialisation and economic development,” he said.

As part of its efforts to empower small citizen-owned businesses, DHL Botswana has appointed local companies to be its agents across the country, contributing to these agencies’ profitability and growth.

DHL has partnered with 120 retail partners in the country for the provision of similar services as well as to extend its footprint to various areas across the country.
