Rollers record highest revenue

They managed to get P1 million plus from the over 15 beMOBILE Premier League games and over P200, 000 gate takings from five games that they played in the Mascom Top 8 games.
Rollers also received P500, 000 after finishing as the runners up in the Mascom Top 8 where they lost 2-1 to city rivals, Gaborone United (GU) in the final. They have generated over P380, 000 for the stadium levy as well as over P170, 000 as the BPL share.
Also making a killing in gate takings were the rookies, Sankoyo Bush Bucks. In their first season in the Premier League, the Maun outfit recorded close to P1 million over the 15 league matches they played at home. The team attracted large crowds at Maun Stadium in all the games.
The figures were revealed by the Botswana Premier League (BPL) chief executive officer (CEO), Bennett Mamelodi at the BPL general assembly that took place in Gaborone on Saturday. Mamelodi said a lot needed to be done to try and tackle revenue leakages at the gates, which have hit Premier League sides’ pockets.
Extension Gunners who have a large following are said to be one of the teams, which have suffered financially because of leakages at the gates. Gunners who last season used the New Lobatse Stadium as their home ground have reportedly suffered because of spectators who jumped over the walls.
They have since registered the National Stadium as their new home ground for the coming season. Mamelodi has also revealed that Premier League teams have generated over P1 million for stadium owners last season. “This demonstrates our contribution to the stadium purse and the overall facility kitty.
We need to engage government further in terms of how we can meet each other half way, particularly in the wake of a more aggressive approach to putting bums on seats and protecting the money generated at the gates,” he said.
