Nippon Motors donates vehicle to BOPSSA

BOPSSA president, Busani Segweni welcomed the gesture saying it would assist the growth of sports at grassroots level. “It has been a fruitful year for BOPSSA despite challenges like transport,” he said.

Segweni credited the Botswana Football Association (BFA) technical officer, Philemon Makhwengwe for introducing them to Nippon.  “We have been figuring out how best to drive this organisation. Nippon came at the right time to help steer BOPSSA in the right direction as we strive for greater heights,” he said. 

He announced that BOPSSA would establish schools of excellence for different sporting codes and in addition a centre would be built in Gantsi.

Segweni was also quick to highlight their success after BOPSSA won the group code of the year at the 35th Botswana National Sports Council annual sports awards.  Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development (MOESD), Moiseraele Goya accepted the vehicle on behalf of BOPSSA and MOESD. He commended BOPSSA for executing the responsibility of coordinating all sporting codes in the 755 public primary schools in Botswana.

“Government alone cannot overcome our national development challenges. It is through partnerships such as the one with Nippon Motors that we can achieve our social and economic goals identified in the National Development Plan,” he said.  Goya said the donation would go a long way in alleviating the challenge of transport shortage and reduce dependence on government.  “Through investments in sports, Botswana will get closer to achieving its economic diversification process,” he said, adding that BOPSSA would use the vehicle to run their day-to-day errands.

“I accept this donation with a deep sense of gratitude and a renewed sense of hope and urge other members of the business community to emulate and follow the example of Nippon Motors” he said.  Nippon Motors managing director, Mahomed Asmy said their company decided to donate to appreciate the support it receives.  “Primary school children are the leaders of tomorrow,” he said.
