Justice Terrence Rannoane has moved the case to August 27. Tlalenyane, who allegedly received a bribe in 2010 whilst on duty, has since been suspended from duty pending his disciplinary hearing.

According to papers before court, on October 21, 2010 Tlalenyane was charged with acting in a manner that would dishonour the reputation of the Botswana Police Service (BPS).

“On 21 October 2010, at Borakanelo police Mr Tlalenyane was charged with acting in a manner likely to bring discredit on the reputation of the service C/S 23d of the police Act,” reads his charge.

The police had learnt that on October 21 2010, Tlalenyane at the Gaborone Main bus rank solicited a bribe of P400 from one Phathudi Ramonyane. Disciplinary proceedings then commenced against them and were immediately interdicted from duty on half salary.

Tlalenyane then took the matter to court citing that the BPS had delayed the disciplinary process hence seeking the courts to stop the proceedings.

The Attorney General (AG) is defending the matter on the basis that the accused and not the police delayed the disciplinary proceedings. Julia Mokoti defends the Police Commisioner whilst Busang Manewe represents Tlalenyane.
