Family of injured man serves BPS

Phineas Lesele sustained injuries to his head and spent close to three weeks fighting for his life at the Intensive care unit (ICU).

Mmegi was earlier informed by a highly placed source that Lesele and his younger brother were arrested for drunk driving.

Upon arrival at the Mogoditshane police where the two were to be booked, the source said a scuffle between Lesele and arresting officers ensued and in the process he fell and bumped his head.

One of the officers alleged that Lesele tried to escape from their custody and that is when he tripped and bumped his head.

This is the explanation that was given to the family who refuse to believe that version of events.

The family suspected foul play and demanded answers from the Police. Two months since the incident, Lesele has been discharged from the hospital but, according to the family, is still unstable. The family lawyer, Faustino Ngandu has since served the Mogoditshane Police boss with a letter of demand. In the letter the family is demanding that police provide them with a detailed report on what happened to their son.

The Police have been given two weeks to respond or risk court action. Chilisa, however, has since denied receiving any letter from the lawyers. The station commanded insists that with or without demand, the investigations into the matter are ongoing.

“I have not been served with anything in relation to that case, as far as I know an investigations team is hard at work to investigate what exactly could have happened to Lesele,” he explained.
