The 55-year-old Briton said he wants the team to win trophies and be able to compete effectively in Africa. Harrison was announced as Rollers coach on Tuesday afternoon and replaces Zimbabwean, Madinda Ndlovu who left in April.

“When I met (Jagdish) Shah I knew Rollers were the biggest team in Botswana. Looking from outside, I can tell they can win trophies. Shah impressed me. He is a professional in his field. My reason being here is to win the league and be competitive in Africa,” Harrison told Mmegi Sport yesterday.

He said talk that he is nomadic has been unnecessarily overhyped.

“People write these issues without background. I am ambitious and professional. At times clubs do not match their ambition with commitment. Again in Africa, some clubs face financial difficulties. I left CAPS United when they were going through a financial crisis,” he said.

He admitted he does not know much about the culture of the club, but is eager to leave a mark.

The former Southampton player signed a one-year performance-based contract and said he is fine with the deal.

He said after he learnt about the resignation of  Ndlovu through the media, he decided to apply for the job.

Harrison said he knows that the club competed in the CAF Club Championships last season against South African giants, Kaizer Chiefs.

He believes he will bring a wealth of experience to the club having coached in England, Africa and Asia. Harrison has said he would give all players a fair chance before deciding on new recruits. (Read full interview in tomorrow’s edition)
