Rolling closer: All five sides still have a chance to win the Haskins trophy

Selebi-Phikwe, Gaborone, Orapa, Francistown and Jwaneng clubs are just few points apart as they battle for the trophy named after Jimmy Haskins.

Selebi-Phikwe leads the log with 16points after the three major tournaments, the Gaborone, Francistown and Orapa legs. Orapa hosted the last major over the weekend.

Gaborone is second, two points below while Orapa lies third with 13points. Francistown, in fourth, has 11points while bottom club, Jwaneng has 10points.

The Haskins major league trophy is awarded to the best bowls club, which accumulates the highest number of points from the year’s five major tournaments.  Three of these major tournaments have already been played with only the Selebi-Phikwe and Jwaneng rounds remaining in August and November respectively.

The Botswana Bowling Association public relations officer, John Gaborutwe said they expect the winners to pocket P5,000. Gaborone is the defending champions.

Meanwhile, preparations for the African States Tournament are ongoing and the squad has been selected.

The squad will be in camp in July with the final team trimmed to 10bowlers, five from each of the men and women’s section.
