Multitudes of people from Goodhope- Mabule constituency and Mafikeng in South Africa thronged the Barolong main Kgotla to hear Kgosi Lotlamoreng II who is expected to resign from the chieftainship

This follows shortly after his acceptance to run as the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) candidate for the Goodhope-Mabule by-election.

Lotlamoreng informed his tribe yesterday that he would take leave from the chieftaincy to pursue other interests.  He is currently deputy chairperson of Ntlo ya Dikgosi and would be handing over next Monday when business of house resumes.

He has chosen Botike Motshegare to be regent.  Motshegare was Lotlamoreng’s deputy and he is one of his trusted uncles. He said his uncles would decide who should deputise Motshegare.  “I have not resigned from Ntlo ya Dikgosi, but I will resign soon.  I am a deputy chairman at Ntlo ya Dikgosi.

If it was for this meeting today, I could be attending to briefings at Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS),” Lotlamoreng said.

He dismissed rumours that he did not consult all his family members when he took a decision to resign from the chieftainship.

“It is only that my family members were not taking me seriously when I broke the news to them. As a youthful person, one should always think outside the box and pursue what you believe in. I can still serve my tribe outside the kgotla and I would remain their kgosi,” he said.

He said all his family members including those in South Africa are aware of his decision to take leave from Bogosi. “It should not be a shock that I want to take my leave.  I am not the only Kgosikgolo to do so.

Khama of the Bangwato, Tawana of Batawana and Bathoeng did the same,” he said. Lotlamoreng was appointed in 2001 when he was only 24-years-old, shortly after he completed his law degree at the then University of North West in South Africa.  In 2002, he was installed as the chief of Barolong.
