BA ISAGO Accounting and Finance Officer Faith Mugwagwa said that Botswana still lacks skilled accountants hence it is one of the vital services when coming to the country’s economy. She was speaking at the luncheon celebrating the institution’s university status held at the campus here.

“BA ISAGO is going to deliver accountants. We are going to supply Botswana with skilled accountants. That’s our mandate from now on,” she said. She said that they have partnered with the Botswana Institution of Chartered Accountants (BICA) in an effort to train further and register qualified accountants with BICA.

Mugwagwa noted that now that they have been elevated from College to University status, it challenges them to adhere to the status of University and put more effort and resources that will meet the standard.

In addition, she said BA ISAGO University values has seen them devolving from college to a university.

“This being a family company, we have learnt to live like a family and groom our students into responsible and professional individuals.”

She added that universities in the country have been associated with disturbing issues and unpleasing stories such as students going on strike due to the school management.

But never once has BA ISAGO University encountered such issues, not because they do not have problems, but because of how transparent they are to their students and all the staff members in general.

For her part, BA ISAGO Francistown campus manager, Gertrude Kachere, emphasised that attainment of university status is critical for both students and the institution.

In addition to students, the status is associated with employment upon graduation, social status and overall life opportunities.

“It is my greatest hope that our students, as well as prospective students, shall from now on, look at us from a different perspective. We shall indeed remain a university of first choice,” she said.

She also promised the stakeholders that they would not rest on their laurels for there is no room at all for complacency.

They shall therefore endeavour to safeguard their existing strengths as the university grows to meet the educational needs in the region.

“It is our hope that our pronounced focus on academic excellence and quality shall remain in the forefront of all development efforts. It is also our expectation that the strengths, the character and the image of the BA ISAGO University are maintained,” Kachere added.

She said they will now work hard to make their graduates fit in the global village and as such, they hope to partner with more international universities so that their students in Botswana may attend universities overseas to bring home more skills that are not locally available especially in the accounting industry.
