This event is expected to draw multitudes of people as trends are showing that ever since the event started in 2013, the number of attendance is gradually increasing annually.

The event will be marked by a series of interesting events such as music and dance by different local artists such as Team Distant, DJ Sly, Obrigado and Mzulala.

The event is divided into two sessions.  The first session starts at 11am with different cultural activities such as Badisa competition whereby they (Badisa or herd boys) will exhibit their traditional farm skills such as skinning (go buwa), dislocation of joints (go lokolola), scrubbing of hooves (go karapa) and cooking of seswaa.

The second event will start at 2pm till sunrise marked by music and dance.

“The idea is to promote Badisa activities so as to be developed and eventually be registered as sport codes.   The competitions have also proved to be a favourite in the local community,” said Greg Losibe, one of the organisers.

To make this event even more interesting two other activities have been added.  These are traditional fire making and target shooting.

Feasting on different kinds of traditionally prepared meats will also mark the day.

These are braai, biltong, pounded dry meat, seswaa, boerwors, fried meat and stew.

“There is a clear difference between the beef festival and meat festival.  During the meat festival people are served different kinds of meat from different animals including wild animals unlike the beef festival whereby people are served beef only.  People will be given the chance to eat 10 different meats such as beef, pork, goat meat as well as game meat such as springbok, kudu, eland and many others,” Losibe said.

People are encouraged to put on farm wear (Khakhi and cowboy hats) to brand the event. They are also encouraged to bring their own camp chairs, as there will be no chairs provided.

“It is not an event of only making money.   We are also providing exposure for Gantsi and for the people of Gantsi to draw more tourists and also to brand the area as the meat hub of Botswana,” he added. Losibe said that some of the funds raised during this day would be donated to the Save-a-Child organisation to help in taking care of the less privileged children of Botswana.
