Short term: Kgabung

Short term: Kgabung

He replaces Arnold Somolekae who stepped down after his club, Notwane were relegated to the First Division South League. Kgabung has been treasurer of the Premier League Committee and will be in charge during the league’s general assembly this weekend. Kgabung said he was honoured to take charge of the Premier League.  He said the appointment is only for a week until the assembly. He said other 15 club chairpersons saw it fit to give him the position and that could be because of the commitment he has shown as the Premier League treasurer for the past six months. Kgabung admitted it is a difficult period to take the post.  “I am steering the Premier League to conclude the season and I cannot say much at the moment. A new chairperson will be appointed at the assembly.  “Personally I am interested in putting my name down for the position,” said Kgabung. He explained that the decision to temporarily elevate him means he relinquishes his position as the treasurer.  Kgabung said if he lets the opportunity to contest for the top post, he would be letting himself and the club down.

BPL chief executive officer, Bennet Mamelodi confirmed Kgabung would be in charge in the interim.  Regarding the change of chairpersons when their clubs relegate, Mamelodi said it is up to the clubs to make changes if they see the need. He said clubs are the policy making body and his job is to implement policies.  He said the agenda of the assembly would see the presentation of the management and audit report. There will also be a budget presentation and motions will be discussed.
