With just two weeks to go, VP Mokgweetsi Masisi still has no lobby list or preferred running mates, ahead of his party’s Executive Committee elections where he is seeking to be elected chairman.

Masisi’s campaign team says the man has taken a conscious decision not to be seen to be forming a new faction in the party, hence the absence of a lobby list.

Traditionally around this time in the race, the lobby list would be flying about as Domkgrag’s forces bid to take charge of the party.

An insider in Masisi’s camp, who preferred anonymity because they are not allowed to speak to the press, says Masisi emphasised the no lobby list stance as recently as last weekend when rumours of a lobby list circulating made rounds.

“We suspect some rivals are playing dirty and are circulating what is purported to be Masisi’s lobby-list.  He will be very disappointed.  His aim is not to respond to smear campaigns and not to be seen to be endorsing anyone over the other.  He is happy to work with anyone and wishes them all the best,” said the Masisi team member.

As recently as two years ago, when the party went for elections in Maun the congress voted for a particular lobby list as they adopted block voting where Samson Moyo Guma and his team swept all the boards against Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi’s team.

About 1,050 delegates made up of all the area councillors, eight representatives from each branch committee, two from each regional committee, and all Members of Parliament will be casting their votes to decide who leads the BDP for the next two years.
