SOMAG donates P6,000 to Botshabelo orphans

SOMAG is an event organising company founded in Selebi -Phikwe in 2012. The donation was inspired by a cry from Botshabelo social workers who asked for assistance from SOMAG as they lacked funds to buy winter clothes for their orphans. In response, SOMAG organised the ladies’ charity Five Aside tourney in which 15 teams participated and each team contributed P500.  Different local companies sponsored the charity tournament, which was held in April.

SOMAG general manager Kabelo Kepaletswe said during the cheque handing over ceremony on Wednesday that his company is not only interested in making profit, but they also have a social responsibility to help the less fortunate in the society. “It is our social responsibility to extend a helping hand to the needy. We are going to continue organising more charity events for the community,” he promised.

Deputy mayor Molefi Pilane said the under-privileged must be accepted and supported by those who have the means to do so. “SOMAG did a great job and the government encourages such a spirit. Events like these send a message that Selebi- Phikwe is not only a mining town, but we also cares about the lives of its people,” he said. The donation was the first charity project that SOMAG did. The second charity event will be organised next year April in which the proceeds will also be donated to the two orphanages of both Botshabelo South and North.
