Not much traffic expected at Selebi �Phikwe airport

SPEDU’s Business Executive (Infrastructure) Kefilwe Leepile touched on the issue during a recent tour of the airport by the Minister of Infrastructure Science and Technology Nonofo Molefhi.
He indicated that the feasibility study that was conducted on the airport has shown that expanding the airport will not make economic sense.
“As a result the airport will only be refurbished as less traffic is expected in the airport.
“The feasibility study shows that expanding the airport will not be a good idea as less traffic in the airport is expected,” she said. refurbishment of the runaway, which is expected to take 66 working days, will start immediately after Civil Aviation Authority Botswana (CAAB) approves the design. The delay in the commencement of the runaway is due to the delay of the results of the design as the consultants who are engaged in the project have indicated that the previous design results were not accurate.
Director of Research, Innovation and Strategy Monnane Monnane told the Minister that Bango Trading has not yet been given a go-ahead to start the project as they are still waiting for CAAB to approve the design,” he said.
CAAB is however expected to take at least two working days to approve the design. The refurbishment of the project, which expected to cost over P15million, is expected to end by the first week of August this year.
The project will be supervised by NAM consulting company, which is subcontracted to Bango Trading.
