BCP youth defies executive committee

Last week, the executive committee resolved that the southern region, will meet on June 13 to discuss the issue and others concerning the congress and the final decider would be made by the executive on June 18. Yesterday the Botswana Congress Party Youth League (BCPYL) released a statement reiterating its position that the party should field a candidate for the Goodhope-Mabule Constituency.

The constituency fell vacant recently after James Mathokgwane of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) resigned. He has since taken up a position at SPEDU, the regional development agency for Selebi Phikwe. The BCPYL spokesperson, Aldrine Madigele said they were aware that events’ surrounding this unlucky constituency makes the field fertile for a serious party with tangible and sound policies.

“We believe that the BCP Molaetsa for 2014 general elections was relevant to Batswana as evidenced by Bakgatla in Moshupa and Mochudi. We have no doubt that it is also relevant to the constituents of Good hope-Mabule. We therefore wish to state that we continue to engage the people of Goodhope-Mabule, in finalising the criteria of having a true people’s representative,” he said. Madigele added that the BCP Youth League reaffirms its unconditional support for the candidate selected to contest under the BCP banner as they take the contest seriously.
