#CrossOkavango expedition team to arrive in Maun today

The arrival will mark the completion of an adventurous journey by travelling duo Thalefang Charles of Mmegi and Pako Lesejane of Botswana Guardian, through the Okavango Delta from Shakawe to Maun by mokoro (dugout canoe).

Charles, the expedition team leader, told Mmegi on Thursday that they would spend the night at Boro village and complete the trip on Friday.

He said: “We expect to arrive in Maun on Friday afternoon. We will complete the trip by Thamalakane River at Matlapeng behind Crocodile Camp.” Charles said the trip went well despite challenges with wild animals, especially hippos.

“Hippos were just too many and unfriendly in the River but we had expert polers who knew how to deal with them,” he said. The trip was a photographic journey aimed at documenting the Delta and celebrating its induction as the 1,000th UNESCO World Heritage Site. The travel due were followed by a film crew from Timeline Productions who will produce a travel documentary. The trip was sponsored by the Botswana Tourism Organisation, Hospitality and Tourism Association of Botswana, Air Botswana, YaronaFM and Mmegi.
