Hurting Notwane bites the dust

From Toronto to dust: Notwane suffered a double loss yesterday as they failed at the High Court and on the pitch

There was no reprieve for a hurting Notwane who arrived in Serowe with their future uncertain after the club took a football matter to court and lost.

However, there was a glimmer of hope for Notwane as early as the 18th minute when Emmanuel Masisi’s shot went in via a deflection. Notwane went further ahead after a shot corner and Sithembile Mbuqi finished. Sechaba took their 2-0 lead to half time. In the second half, Notwane continued to probe but it was Satmos that halved the deficit in the 60th minute through Sadique Takunda, who finished a spill. Satmos then drew level through Kediemetse Radikoko five minutes later. In the 70th minute, Notwane restored their lead when Louis Sekwainyana headed home unmarked. Satmos refused to lie down and their captain, Gaotwesepe Ralegoreng forced the match into extra with an equaliser deep into injury time. In extra time, Sankunda made it 4-3 in favour of Satmos as Notwane’s future further looked bleak.

Sakunda completed his hat-trick five minutes into the second half of extra time.

Notwane briefly threatened a comeback through Karabo Gaolebale, but Sakunda extinguished any hopes with his fourth goal of the afternoon to steer his side to safety.

The defeat means Notwane, who survived through a boardroom decision two seasons ago, will ply their trade in the dusty grounds of the First Division. Satmos meanwhile, will have another dance in the topflight football.
