Mmegi is reliably informed that Lotlamoreng has already started consulting the royal family, his uncles and dikgosana on the matter.  While some of the uncles are said to be apprehensive, he is said to be receiving all round blessings.

“He started his consultation on Monday with his uncles and yesterday he met with dikgosana from different villages of Borolong,” a source said. The post became vacant after UDC MP James Mathokgwane abruptly resigned to take up a senior position at the Selebi-Phikwe government operation SPEDU, two weeks ago.

“It seems he has made up his mind about politics because he is not shaken about the matter. He has a feeling that he could represent people well when in politics because he has done his part in bogosi,” he said.

Another royal insider revealed that Lotlamoreng has called a Kgotla meeting in Goodhope for Saturday to formally communicate his decision. The Barolong royal is expected to continue with the meetings next week, before he is officially received and endorsed by the UDC.

Mmegi has leant that, as soon as Mathokgwane resigned, there was a hive of activity at the royal house as all contending parties tried courting him. But, he is said to have politely told all that if he went into politics he would be comfortable only in the party he has always been sympathetic towards, the Botswana National Front (BNF). BNF forms part of the three-member coalition of the UDC, of which the other partners are Botswana Movement for Democracy and Botswana Peoples Party.

Efforts to get a comment from Kgosi Lotlaamoreng were unsuccessful, as he was not answering his mobile number.

Meanwhile, the BNF secretary general and UDC elections manager, Tapiso Kgosikoma said they planned issuing a writ of elections on Saturday, so that whoever has interest to contest may indicate so. “We have not yet approached anyone.

The election committee will on Saturday issue a writ of elections. Those who have interest to contest will show up and we will announce after primary elections. If one person has applied then we will announce the name of the person who will be contesting for UDC,” said Kgosikoma.

He said his party wants to start campaigns early because they do not have enough resources like the ruling party, Botswana Democratic Party (BDP). Lotlamoreng remained locked in meetings with his subjects by late yesterday and would not answer his phone.
