It is one of the greatest fairy tales of all time that the Maru-a-Pula theatre has given a pantomime treatment.

“Stunning costumes, shimmering staging and magical music bring this classic tale to life. Set in ancient Egypt in the Kingdom of Peponi, it tells the story of poor Kurana, who was having a hard time with her stepmother and her two spoilt and snobbish stepsisters,” said Maitisong spokesperson, Gao Lemmenyane.

He said the cruel stepsiblings were looking forward to being chosen by the prince, who was searching for the most beautiful girl to be the princess of the kingdom.

In the play Kurana’s godmother, Gwendolin, gives her a chance at happiness, but with her stepmother in pursuit of the crown for her own daughters, it makes one wonder if she will ever find peace.

“Meanwhile, the prince’s crown is threatened by a cousin, who thinks that the prince is not ready to be the next ruler of the Kingdom of Peponi. So will the prince get married and live happily ever after?” he asked.

Lemmenyane promised that the answers to those questions would be discovered in a show jam-packed with singing, dancing, jokes and daft routines that would make the audience laugh no matter what age they are.

He added that the play was made for the audience to experience a true family live theatre.

He added that Maru-a-Pula School had a strong reputation for traditional pantomime and that this year, Kurana would carry on that tradition by delivering yet another delight for the audience. The play is written and directed by Clayton Ndlovu, featuring Mwanje Tembo, Hannah Taylor, Ramin Sabet, Ruby Noble, Rati Matome, Nils Wisotzki, Samantha Moon, Ayanda Mavuma.

Kurana would be held at Maitisong (Maru-a-pula school) on Friday at 7pm, and on Saturday at 3pm and 7pm. The tickets would be sold for P25 for students and P50 for adults. The tickets can be bought at Maitisong Theatre or by sending an e-mail to info@maitisong.org to book.
