Amos takes early charge in Diamond League

It was Amos’ first victory of the season after a second place finish in Rome last week.

After the race, he flew to Germany as he continues his build-up to the IAAF World Championships to be held in China in August.

Recovering from injury, Amos finished second in Eugene and Rome in his first two races, but came good on Sunday to finish ahead of Adam Kszczot of Poland.  He however, recorded a slower time of 1:46:77 well below his personal best of 1:41:73.

It was also his slowest time of all his three races this year, although in Birmingham wind might have been a huge factor.

In Rome, Amos had finished in 1:43:80.

“Ended my first circuit with a win. It’s all coming together and I really appreciate your support,” he said on his Facebook account after winning.

The triumph moved Amos to six points while his nearest rival Ethiopian, Aman Mohammend, has four.

Amos’ fierce competitor, Kenya’s David Rudisha is still recovering from a hamstring injury.

The two have taken the world by storm, particularly at their 2012 London Olympic run, which was recorded as the fastest 800m race in history.

However, both are expected to be fully fit for the Beijing showdown with sprint king, Usain Bolt, also keen to make a statement after a season blighted by injury.
