Baby Moono, named after the popular UDC slogan, was born just as the multitudes of supporters and members of Boko’s party, the Botswana National Front (BNF), were gathered in Thamaga to kick-start the 50th anniversary celebrations.

When the ceremony director Benjamin Kelepang told the multitudes who thronged the event, that Boko would not make it to Thamaga as the couple had just been blessed with baby Moono, there was an all-round cheers and ululations.

“President Boko will not be with us today because he was blessed by a baby boy today. The child has been named Moono,” said Kelepang to the delight of supporters.

Boko officially married Kaone Boko nee Mokganedi in Moshupa, in March this year. Just like the UDC president, Kaone is also an attorney and practices at Duma Boko and Company.

The party president was slotted as major speaker at the Kweneng region event, which was graced by both young and old, including the veterans and activists of old and village elders, among them, William Makuruetsa and Kably Motseonageng.

Also in attendance were UDC parliamentarians Mohammed Khan, Tlamelo Mmatli and Shawn Nthaile.

The anniversary celebrations are planned for all the regions, and will culminate with the unveiling of a plague for the founding leader, the late Kenneth KK Koma in Mahalapye in October.

The BNF is an affiliate of UDC, whose other opposition coalition partners are the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) and the Botswana Peoples Party (BPP).
