Galenamotlhale beat Township Rollers’ midfielder, Segolame Boy and Orapa United striker Hendrick Moyo to win the most prestigious award of the night, the Player of the Season, with a prize tag of P75 000. He also won the bePlayer of the Season, an award voted for by football supporters. The award carries prize money of P20 000.  The ‘Big Lesh’ as the player is affectionately known, has been one of the most consistent performers in the past season and contributed a lot to the Chiefs’ title success. He was a marvel to watch in the middle of the park either operating as offensive or defensive player.

Speaking to Monitor Sport, a visibly jubilant Galenamotlhale said he was happy that he has won the two awards and that he contributed to his team success.

“When (the) season started the aim was to play for the team and find success with the team as a whole, now I am happier because I also managed to get some individual awards,” he explained.

He said despite being the best player in the local football at the moment and once again being omitted from the national squad, he would continue to work hard with the hope of catching the Zebras coach’s eye. He also wants to try to get a move for a team outside the country.

“I cannot say much about not being selected for the Zebras, I will just leave it to the national team selectors to do their job.

I also wish to play outside the country, but only in league which its standards are higher than our local league,” he said.

In addition to be crowned the champions, Chiefs scooped two other awards with Lemponye Tshireletso winning the Green Boot after scoring a tally of 15 goals and coach Mike Sithole clinching the Coach of the Season award.

Boy was voted the Player’s Player of the season, pocketing P25 000 and Onkabetse Makgantai of Nico United beat his Under-23 teammates, Goitseone Phoko and Kabelo Seakanyeng to win the Young Player of the Season. The Goalkeeper of the season award went to Mosimanegape Robert of Orapa United.  In other awards, Kutlwano Leso scooped the Referee of the Season award while Moemedi Monakwane was voted Assistant Referee of the Season.  Kitso Kemoeng was awarded the chairman’s award for his contribution to the development of players and the sport in the past years.
