The management committee had docked the Premier League rookies, Sankoyo Bush Bucks 29 points for using Zimbabwean striker, Morris Rudzivo while not properly registered. Sankoyo were initially found guilty by the BFA disciplinary committee before they appealed the matter at the National Appeals Board (NAB).

However, the NAB upheld the BFA DC’s ruling and awarded FC Satmos three points and two goals. Following the NAB’s ruling, the BPL management committee decided to dock Sankoyo 29 points for the games in which they used the player. The decision caused uproar with several Premier League teams distancing themselves from the decision.

The BPL board then met and overruled the management committee before the matter was referred to the mother body (BFA).  “It is a fact that Sankoyo Bush Bucks used a defaulter. The NAB decision stands and the docking of points by the management committee is therefore reversed,” BFA president, Tebogo Sebego told the media on Friday.

He said since Satmos have more points than Notwane which are regarded as soft points, the two sides will play this Wednesday to determine who remains in the Premier League. Despite recent reports that Notwane had also lodged a protest regarding the player in question, Sebego said there was never a protest from Notwane. He said the letter written by Notwane was just a complaint and not a protest.

Sankoyo, however are not totally off the hook. Sebego said there was misconduct by the Maun based side. “We will refer the matter to the BFA disciplinary committee to deal with that issue of misconduct,” he stated.

He said they have also set up a commission of inquiry to investigate what actually happened with the registration of the player in question. The commission will be led by the BFA legal advisor, Onkagetse Pusoentsi and Eatametse Olopeng.

Meanwhile, Sebego has expressed concern about the controversies that have marred the just ended season which he said are hurting the image of the football in the country. Speaking to the delegates at the BPL general assembly on Saturday, Sebego reminded them that football is bigger than individuals. He told the clubs representatives that football has entered into good partnerships with different companies, which should be protected.
