Tshotego is now backing Tebelelo Seretse for the highly contested position. He said he felt Botswana’s former envoy to the US was the rightful person to solve the problems besieging the BDP.

“Apart from convincing people to vote for someone, one has to look at the bigger picture. I believe that Seretse and I have some things in common. She has been in BDP structures before, and therefore she is capable to build it back. We need a party chairman who is not committed to ministerial posts,” he said.

Tshotego added that Seretse groomed him in politics, emphasising that she had what it takes to unite BDP members.

He encouraged all his supporters across the country to now campaign for and rally behind Seretse.

“When I was touring the 57 branches during my campaigns, I realised that Seretse had already covered them.  So far she is the one leading the race because she had started well in time. Seretse stands a good chance and it is not her first time to contest for the post,” he said.

The BDP elective congress will be held at Mmadinare on July 3, 2015.

Tshotego said he would continue to talk to BDP delegates to vote for Seretse.  Besides giving Seretse his support, Tshotego believes that the BDP needs a chairperson who would be able to check if party structures are working.

“We need members more than before.

The truth is, some Batswana seem to be losing trust in our party and therefore we need someone who can relate well with the people,” he said.

Mmegi has established that Seretse’s team was lobbying delegates to form a single strong team to conquer Mokgweetsi Masisi. Other candidates vying for the BDP chairmanship include Moemedi Dijeng, Biggie Butale and former minister of Defence, Justice and Security Ramadeluka Seretse.
