The 19-year-old rapper, who came as an underdog, surprised a number of hip hop heads when his single topped the YouTube charts after only two months of release. At the moment Pula has 104, 511 views on YouTube.

Before this,  Zeus’s award winning single Datswasup was the leading local rap song on YouTube.

Speaking to Showbiz, Frost who could not hide his excitement on the new developments on his young career, stated that this came as a shock. “I did not expect for this to happen when I uploaded the video on YouTube.”

On the flipside, the majority of viewers of the video on YouTube are from the Italian city of Rome, and Croatia. “Rome residents confused the meaning of Pula with their own meaning of the word. This led to many of them viewing and liking the song,” stated Frost.

In Rome, the word Pula means penis, while there is a city called Pula in Croatia. On the track, Frost was talking of Pula- the local currency- as he was directing the message to promoters that they underpay musicians.

Frost stated that a Rome-based rapper shared the link of the video, which many in the Italian city watched, perhaps thinking that it is the Pula they know.

Despite eventually understanding the meaning of Pula in Setswana, Rome residents have since grown to love the song more as they continue to view its video.

The rapper, who is signed under Heartbeat sounds, is planning on doing a remix of Pula featuring Doc and another Romanian rapper, which he could not mention. “We are also planning on a performance tour to Rome, one of ten promoters that side has invited us to come and perform.” The young rapper is currently working on his debut album, which is yet to be released,

“I am releasing the album next year but if all goes well it might be late this year.” He is working closely with artists and producers such as K- Bos and Prez Beats.

Pula’s achievement is a reflection of how local Hip-hop has caught attention overseas and is growing day by day.

A few months ago South African rappers K.O and Casper Nyovest also broke the record when they became the first rappers in South Africa to reach 1 million views on YouTube.
