Katisenge will join 33 other young sports leaders from across the world. Some of the countries that will send representatives are Brazil, Aruba, Cyprus, South Africa and Kenya. The programme starts on June 7, 2015.

Katisenge told Mmegi Sport yesterday that she was excited about the opportunity. She said it would be a chance to participate at a high level workshop aimed at grooming young leaders. She also said she expects to learn a lot from the two-week  workshop. The workshop will bring together young people who have the potential to be community leaders in the field of sport for development.

“I was selected from a throng of applicants from different parts of the world. The initiative, through the International Working Group on Women and Sport (IWG) put out a call for applicants from around the world,” she explained.

According to a statement issued by IWG public relations and marketing manager, Boitumelo Kenosi, the organisation partnered with the Global Action Initiative to identify young females with leadership potential across Africa.  Through the assistance of BCF, Katisenge will take part in the summit, which aims to empower young people from across the World.

The summit will provide participants with theoretical and practical experience together with a toolkit of how to use sport to improve social conditions.

“The participants will learn to use the universal language of sports to engage and lead their peers in addressing vital social and economic issues in their home countries,” stated Kenosi.  She added that the participants would learn techniques for running sports for development programmes from professionals and share their experiences on running sports based empowerment programmes in their communities. Katisenge becomes the first local sports administrator to attend the summit.
