For the first time, the event, to be held in Maun on October 26, will have a literacy award competition for writers living in Botswana.

“This is our first competition that involves story writers. Our plan is to spread it out and include other writers like journalists where awards will be presented to the best story-writing journalist.

“As we speak, plans are already underway for next year’s competition. We want to invest more in this competition,” Molosi said.

Only people who are 18-years-old and older can take part in this competition.

Competitors are expected to write a 350 word English short story from any fiction genre of their choice, such as literary, romance, thriller or adventure.

Writers are must write stories that are of local setting, are about Batswana way of life and should have a fresh perspective and should have never been published anywhere.

“The main purpose of this competition is to try by all means to engage all Batswana writers. We rarely engage our writers, but this competition serves as a platform to promote our writers in order to gain recognition and exposure worldwide. “By doing so we are also putting our country on the map,” he said.

The deadline for submissions is 30 July, 2015. Winners will be announced by September 15. The award ceremony will take place during the Maun International Arts Festival (MIAF) on October 26.
