Mamelodi confirmed his resignation to Mmegi Sport, but did not elaborate on his reasons for leaving.

The complex relegation equation, which has been fuelled by protests over the eligibility of Sankoyo striker, Morris Rudzivo, forced Mamelodi to reconsider his position.

However, reports are that there were other factors, which pushed out the burly administrator as he felt he had lost the support of the Premier League board’s top two. In his resignation letter, Mamelodi made it clear that he cannot stand by and watch the Premier League product being destroyed. The Botswana Premier League board convened an urgent meeting yesterday afternoon, in a bid to convince Mamelodi to rescind his decision.

“It is for the highest officer in the league. I convened an emergency executive committee meeting today.

We have agreed to engage the CEO further and try to see if he can not reverse his decision,” Botswana Premier League Board Chairperson, Arnold Somolokae said. But allegations are rife that Mamelodi will not reverse his decision if the same ‘poisonous atmosphere’ persists.

Botswana Football Association (BFA) president, Tebogo Sebego last night issued a media statement stating that the association had taken over in a bid to find a solution.

“The BFA National Executive Committee shall, as a result of this referral, convene an urgent meeting by the end of the week to look into the matter, review the reports filed therein and to map a way forward that shall bring finality to the apparent confusion that surrounds this matter.

In the meantime, all decisions by the Premier League Committee, in respect of this matter, shall remain inoperative pending the decision by the National Executive Committee,” Sebego said in a statement.
