Boitekanelo college extends helping hand

The event started with litter picking activity around the Kgotla to help keep the environment clean and safe for Tlokweng residents.
Giving the objectives of the program, the Principal of Boitekanelo Isabella Magetse said the staff and students of Boitekanelo came up with the initiative to help the disadvantaged persons in Tlokweng. “Our institution focuses on health therefore we wanted to share our services with the whole community,” she said. Magetse said initially they were supposed to bring their health services to the people but time constraints hindered that effort.
In addition the Student Representative Council(SRC) President of Boitekanelo College Modisaotsile Monyama said they conducted an assessment around Tlokweng to identify the four underprivileged persons. “We managed to choose four individuals of low income who needed the support,” he said. Monyama added that they were looking for people who could not do anything to help themselves. “As students of Boitekanelo College we have learnt a lot from this and we will continue the spirit of compassion across all Batswana,” he said.
The four disabled chosen people included Kelebonye Mokibe, a 47-year-old amputee woman who received food, blanket, toiletry and a heater. The next one was a 16-year-old paraplegic boy who received a blanket, food and toiletry. A visually impaired 18-year-old woman Baratang Kgomo also got food, blanket, stove, gas and toiletry. Another disabled person, 28-year-old Khumo Utlwang also received a wheelchair, food, toiletry and clothing.
