The Zebras were slow off the starting blocks, but recovered well in the second half.

However, against the run of play, the Mambas went ahead in the 64th minute when Zebras goalkeeper, Kabelo Dambe failed to deal with a cross. Peter Butler’s charges pushed for an equaliser and were rewarded when Omaatla Kebatho fired through a forest of legs to bring parity in the 78th minute. With extra time looming, the Zebras defence, in particular, Katlego Koobake went to sleep allowing a Mozambique attacker to ghost from the blind side and head in the winner.

Butler was infuriated and blamed the defeat on “two scandalous” pieces of defending.

“We gave away two silly goals. You do not deserve to win a game when you concede like that.

There are no excuses really. We were on top in the second half and worked hard to get into the game only to give away two scandalous goals,” Butler said.

Mozambique now proceed to meet Namibia in the final while Botswana will fight for bronze against Madagascar in Moruleng on Saturday.
