The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) member yesterday said he was disappointed that the ministry, in its executive summary had failed to outline its key objectives that should be the core in the ministry.

“I am a bit disappointed that the ministry has no key objectives or have not outlined its key objectives in its executive summary, which have been the centre of this report,” he said. The Ministry had appeared before the committee to account where Gaolathe said the key objectives would help the ministry to have definitive directions and focus better on areas of priorities.

He explained that key areas such as the environment, branding of cities, villages and certain areas, civil engagement, infrastructure development and development of leisure areas and parks were critical in the ministry and areas where the ministry should focus more.

“All these key objectives, for example the environment, in the instance of sewerage, garbage collection, city cleaning, and for infrastructure development such as internal roads and streetlights, should be outlined properly and given maximum attention,” he said. Gaolathe further said those key objectives seem to be neglected, but if implemented and executed would not only be an attraction to tourism, but could be beneficial in other areas of interest. In their defence, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary Molefi Keaja said the ministry had all along had those key objectives, but it was only that they did not outline them in the executive summary.

He said he welcomed the move and that at the next appearance before the committee, they would do best to outline them as their key areas and give updates on them.

“This ministry is dedicated to making sure that there are developments in the country especially in rural areas, and we do have key objectives. It’s just that we have failed to outline them properly.  We do have them in place though,” he pleaded.
