“Koma believed that leaders should be humble towards the people they serve. He wanted leaders to know their people’s problems and advocate for them at all times. He also wanted the masses to understand the vision of their party and to hold on to it at all times,” said Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) President and Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) vice president, Ndaba Gaolathe, who spoke at the BNF pre-anniversary dinner in Gaborone on Friday.

Gaolathe who was invited in his capacity as an Umbrella partner said Koma’s philosophy could ensure that BNF and its partners in the UDC became the next government.

He said Koma never felt that BNF was a party, rather he believed that it was a mass organisation meant to bring people together.

“That is the reason why BNF managed to have (such a) great leader, who other political parties admired,” he said.

Gaolathe urged BNF members to support its leadership by among others fundraising. This, he said would enable the party leadership to achieve targets set by the party.

He emphasised the importance of cooperation by UDC members. “Our parties need each other at all times. That is the reason why we should always give support to one another when events of this nature take place,” he said.

Meanwhile, BNF President Duma Boko said his party had started study groups to bring political education to the masses. “Our aim is to groom our political leaders for tomorrow,” he said.
