The institutions launched the programme at the YWCA hall yesterday. Speaking at the event, YWCA president Tshoganetso Paphane said that her organisation endeavours to ensure that they rehabilitate, foster and educate today‘s youth into better tomorrow leaders.

“ We have form five students who are about to write their Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) examinations, and they need a platform that will enable them to sit down and do their research in preparation for their exams,” she said.

Phaphane also said that the Ministry of Education and Skills Development had encouraged them to change from the teacher centred approach, to a leaner centred approach, which would enable students to continue learning even in the absence of their teachers.

“This also prepares them for tertiary education which requires a lot of research. This new approach will also help students to be independent in their studies and this can only happen when institutions like the UB Library can extend their service to meet students’ needs,” she added.

The YWCA has been faced with shortage of textbooks and computers, which enhances students’ learning.

Phaphane noted that their partnership with the UB Library would help them fill in the resource gap, as the university has all the resources necessary for the students to enhance their academic performance.

“The university Library and the YWCA teachers will work together to teach the students research skills.  Students will be taken to the library every Wednesday to be familiarised with the library atmosphere, and taught how to use the Internet to search for information,” she said.
