Kgosi Mmirwa Malema of Bobirwa issued a strong warning to the new chief saying bogosi is no child's play. 'Today we are celebrating but there are those who will go behind your back with divisive intentions. That happens and you should be prepared for it. You should rise above petty issues and serve the people of Maunatlala,' Malema said.
He advised the chief to be wary of politicians, some of whom have ulterior motives.
Malema said some politicians might distract the chief from doing his duties. He advised Mapena to stick to the law and not lose focus.
'Dintsa disantse ditla bogola di le mo sakeng,' said Malema.
Guest speaker, Kgosi Mokhutshwane Sekgoma of Serowe urged the new chief to work together with his subjects to ensure harmony. Sekgoma said Mapena is on a journey littered with challenges.
'It is a journey that you have to prepare for. On the way you will meet many challenges and you should be ready to tackle them,' Sekgoma said.
He added that the traditional fire which is lit at the Kgotla during the installation of the chief was symbolic.
He said Mapena is the light of the village and he should not let the fire die. Sekgoma urged Mapena to practice utmost patience and impartiality when dealing with his subjects.
He said the chief should be visionary in his leadership and conduct himself in a manner which dignifies bogosi.
Sekgoma said Mapena should use the community as his mirror and listen to advice. 'You must listen to them. Being a chief does not mean you should disrespect your subjects. Lead in manner that rises above petty issues,' Sekgoma said.
He said the chief has to bear in mind that he will always be under scrutiny since he has assumed a position of responsibility. He said gone are the days when the chief used to be considered a young person saying he should conduct himself in a manner, which shows that he has assumed a position of responsibility.
He urged villagers to advise their chief accordingly, because if they do not, the community will suffer.
Bamangwato regent, Sediegeng Kgamane commended Maunatlala for keeping to tradition by installing a chief. He said it must be borne in mind that a chief is born and not elected. He asserted that there are people who are misdirected on bogosi.
Kgamane said it was good to note that there was no chieftainship wrangle during the installation of Mapena. He advised Mapena to ensure efficient service delivery as emphasised by President Ian Khama.
'The new administration puts emphasis on efficient service delivery and you must do just that.
Be punctual and clear cases before you, do not allow a back log,' Kgamane said.
In a brief speech, Mapena acknowledged advice from chiefs and villagers, pledging to work with the community.
