The event, organised by First Models in collaboration with Adcraft Advertising Agency, will be held on October 2 at GICC. The event will be the forth edition of Mister Africa International, the previous ones having been hosted in London.

Botswana beat Ghana and France in the bid to host the high fashion competition for African male models. First Models has agreed to host the event and accommodate all the delegates from all over Africa and the world.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of First Models Management, Fortune Madyise, said they won the bid because Botswana is a peaceful country.“The event will help to promote and sell our country,” he said.

Madyise said they were grateful for the honour because they would be the first country to host it in Africa. He said thus far 20 countries had confirmed and they await confirmation from others. “It’s going to be a big event and this is a chance to put Botswana on the map,” he said.

Madyise added that local fashion designers should use the event as a platform to market themselves. He said they have been approaching potential sponsors and so far a few have decided to come aboard.

“We are knocking on doors everywhere.  This is an international event so we cannot settle for low standards,” he explained. Madyise said they would host Mister Ideal Botswana in June and the winner would represent Botswana at the main one in October.

He encouraged all Batswana to support the event and make it a memorable one. Jaydon Anderson, a local, won Mister Africa International in 2013 after he beat 20 other men at the competition held at the Africa Centre in London.

He has since worked with the young CEO’s network to raise money for small-scale businesses in Africa and promote education and tourism in the continent.

Ayotunde ‘Twitch’ Fabamwo founded Mister Africa International in an effort to empower young Africans and raise money for charity.
