BAA president, Moses Bantsi said the Senn Foods support hangs in the balance.
He told Mmegi Sport yesterday the company informed the association last year that they were sponsoring the national championships for the last time.
He said despite this setback, BAA has requested the company to assist them with prizes. Bantsi said P64,000 is needed as prize money and for the first time, podium finishers will be awarded medals.
He said they are still waiting for Senn Foods’ response.
Bantsi said they have invited former Namibian sprinter, Frankie Fredericks who is also the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) council member to grace the event.  Fredericks is the former 100m and 200m world champion. Some local athletes will not, however, participate in the national championships due to other IAAF engagements, Bantsi revealed.
Renowned athletes; Isaac Makwala, Pako Seribe, Lydia Jele and Nijel Amos are competing in Europe.
Seribe competed against the world champion, Usain Bolt in the 200m last night. Bantsi said they expect runners from Namibia, Mozambique, Swaziland and Seychelles to participate in the annual competition. He pointed out that Seychelles is bringing their top high jumper to the competition.
Bantsi expected athletes to continue from where they left off after last weekend’s Sports View International meet--where runners recorded good times.
“We expect quality competition and good officiating because this is the biggest in the BAA calendar,” he said.
No comment could be obtained from Senn Foods officials at press time.
