The local side was better team in the first half, dominating the Harambe Starlets from the first whistle. Kenya though had Veronica Nekesa who looked dangerous all the time she had the ball on her feet, but the likes of Sedilame Boseja managed to deal with the threat she posed. Refilwe Tholakele superbly finished after a counter attack in the 21st minute. The Starlets tried to stab back, but Keegofetse Mochawe alongside Lesego Keleboge were solid at the back.

Bonang Otlhagile made a crucial save in the 26th minute, making a goal line clearance, which denied Kenya an equaliser.  Lesego Keleboge then scored Zebras’ second goal in the 30th minute with a powerful header. The visitors’ then made a substitution with Kinutha Wanjiku making way for Wafula Nekesa. Wanjiku’s presence in the game sparked up the Starlets game, but Boseja was confident enough to deal with the situation.

Zebras went into halftime leading 2-0. In the second half, they tried to defend in numbers but lost concentration in the last minute of the game and conceded a goal. Kenya’s goal came through Wafula Nekesa. The two sides will meet in Nairobi for the second leg in two weeks time. Coach Gaolethoo Nkutlwisang said they still have a lot of work to do in the second leg if they are to stay in the competition. She said loss of concentration resulted in the Kenya’s goal.
