Amos Wins Big At BNSC Awards

The sportsperson of the year award carried a cash prize of P70, 000. Charles Mosokomane of tennis won umpire of the year award while Justice Dipeba of athletics walked away with the coach of the year award. Group code of the year award was snatched by Botswana Primary Sports Association (BOPSA) beating BISA and BOTESSA.
Keamogetse Kenosi of boxing then scooped the junior female sportsperson of the year award. Baboloki Thebe won the junior male sportsperson of the year award, while Keenese Katisenge of chess picked the sport administrator of the year award.
Mervin Mitchell of Botswana Bowling Association was given the non-citizen award. The men senior relay team that comprised of Isaac Makwala, Onkemetse Nkobolo, Thapelo Otlogetswe and Pako Seribe was named the national team of the year. Sports code of the year went to cricket while Pearl Morake of boxing was chosen as the sportswoman of the year. The Peoples’ choice award went to the Kata team that comprised of Leonard Modise, Tshepo Baumake and Philip Revarka.
In the media awards, Yarona FM were named the electronic media organisation of the year while Mpho Aaron of Botswana Television (Btv) is the electronic journalist of the year. The Voice newspaper was chosen as the print media house of the year while the print journalist of the year award went to Lucretia Chima of Kutlwano magazine. Thompson Keobaletswe of BOPA is the photographer of the year. BNSC chairperson, Solly Reikeletseng gave chairman’s awards to Karabo Sibanda of athletics and Ofentse Nato of football.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Thapelo Olopeng said the P71 million grant given to the BNSC is not enough and urged the private sector to assist in funding sport. He also encouraged athletes to always be disciplined if they are to be successful in life. For his part, Reikeletseng said there are structures in place to develop sports. He said the country has potential to do more.
