PMH opens first MDT clinic

“In order to improve health of women diagnosed with cancer in Botswana, Princess Marina Hospital Oncology and Obstetrics & Gynecology Departments have established the first MDT clinic in Botswana,” he stated.
He said the MDT clinic will be conducted every Wednesday starting from today (May 20, 2015) where all gynecological malignancies would be seen initially by a team of gynecologists, oncologists, pathologists, palliative care specialists, radiologists, social workers and other relevant disciplines at one sitting.
He said that all progressive departments and centres of excellence around the world had used this kind of approach to the management of cancer.
Kutlapye explained that patients would get the chance to be seen by all professionals at one sitting. This will allow for a comprehensive plan to be made and therefore improving and shortening consultation times between specialties.
In turn the plan will, among others, improve turnaround time for pathology, allow for discussion and consultation between specialties, reduce congestion in oncology and gynecology clinics and allow for collaboration and improved working relations between departments.
