Model Camp vows to unearth talent

Model Camp a collection of four professional models facilitates open workshops every last Saturday of the month at President Hotel.
The four models are Twaambo Simbanyima, Torqull, David Rekereng and Peggy Grynberg the only female in the group. Model Simbanyima told Showbiz that upon realisation that upcoming models lack mentors who could help them grow in the industry, they decided to establish the camp.
“When we started we did not have any mentors to look up to. We had to learn from our experiences, now that we are established we are the bridge for upcoming models,” he said.
Model Camp coaches models on elements such as walking on the ramp, confidence, nutrition, make-up application and photography modelling.
Simbanyima who recently featured in the Fashion Without Boarders said the local modelling industry has potential to grow, but it is being undermined to the extent that a number of people are discouraged from joining it.
He further said Model Camp will work closely with models and recruit more and as time goes on, they will also create opportunities for them.
The Model Camp collection has featured in a number of local and international fashion shows in places such as New York, Milan and Johannesburg. They have also been featured on billboards for companies such as beMOBILE and Orange Botswana.
“We are looking forward to reducing the levels of unemployment by recruiting more models into the industry.
With modelling, one gets exposed to a number of opportunities such as acting and TV presenting,” stated Mooketsi, who specialises in confidence coaching. He added that lack of funds is restraining them from acquiring more resources, which could help them with the mission of growing the modelling industry in the country.
“We are planning on doing a nationwide workshop, but we do not have enough funds to do so,” he said, as he pleaded for sponsors to assist them with funds.
