FNBB appoints new board members

In a statement on the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE), the country’s largest bank announced that it has appointed Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba and Nelson Mokgethi to its board.

The two have been been appointed to the board as independent non- executive directors effective 12th March 2015.

“Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Masire-Mwamba office, where she provides coaching, personal development and diplomacy services based on her broad international exposure and access.

“Masire-Mwamba recently completed her term as the Deputy Secretary General with the Commonwealth Secretariat based in London. She is a renowned international civil servant who has served Botswana in various management capacities in technical, development and the diplomatic field.

She is currently Botswana Government’s nominated candidate for the position of Commonwealth Secretary General, for which elections will be held in November 2015,” reads the statement.

Masire-Mwamba started her career with Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) as an assistant engineer to group manager, positioning the corporation for a successful transition from a state owned monopoly to an operator in a competitive and liberalised market. Almost 16 years after joining BTC, she emerged as one of the most influential female executives’ and continued to apply her skills and experiences in a range of economic and development fields. In 2003, Masire-Mwamba became the Chief Executive Officer of Botswana Export Development and Investment Authority (BEDIA).

Mokgethi, on the other hand also brings a wealth of experience to the bank having previously done consultancy work for the World Bank (Africa Infrastructure Country Diagnostic reports), Botswana Development Corporation, African Development Bank (programme training and implementation), Africa Infrastructure Knowledge programme, Ministry of Local Government (Destitute Policy Review) and UNICEF amongst others in investment, trade and development.

Mokgethi, who is currently the director of Dikarabo/Event Ventures where he consults for the African Development Bank, has worked for the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.

“After obtaining his first degree in Economics, Mokgethi worked his way through the Division of Economic Affairs, eventually rising to become its Deputy Secretary for Economic Affairs.  “In 1992, he transferred to the Division of Budget Administration, to assume the position of Secretary for Budget Administration (permanent secretary level position) to head the Division.

Nelson worked as the head of the Division until 2004, the year he retired from the Public Service,” the FNBB statement added. According to the 2014 annual report, FNNB board of directors comprised of seven members that included chairman, Peter Stevenson, Sifelani Thapelo, Michael Ward, Danete Zandamela, Jogn Macaskill, Jabulani Khethe, and Dorcas Kgosietsile.
