Magosi crowned champions

Chiefs’ left-winger, Lemponye Tshireletso scored the opener in the first half from Galabgwe Moyana’s pass to spark wild celebrations among Magosi fans. Uyapo Seleka equalised in the second half through a penalty, but substitute Senatla Molefhe scored the winner five minutes after coming in.

The game started on a high note with Chiefs looking for an early goal. Their efforts were rewarded 15 minutes into the game through Tshireletso who scored his 15th goal of the season. He easily tapped in Moyana’s ball into the net to emerge the top scorer in the competition.

After the goal, Police played possession football, hoping to catch Chiefs on counterattack. Police could have equalised on the half hour mark, but a well-placed Ishmael Alponsah failed to capitalise from Betsho Pius’ pass. The game went to the break with Magosi still leading 1-0.

From the break, the Jungle Kings came with guns blazing and 10 minutes into the second half, they were level. The equaliser came when Chiefs defender, Cyrus Jamali conceded a penalty. Seleka easily converted to level the score. Jamali was substituted soon after and Magosi introduced two attackers, Onalethata Tshekiso and Ayanda Molefe.

Soon after coming in, Molefe gave his side the lead when he converted from Moyana’s pass. It was the second assist from the outstanding Moyana. Mara Moloi could have made it 3-1, but he headed wide after Moyana delivered a perfect cross from the left. Moloi soon gave way to captain Pontsho Moloi. Police XI goalkeeper, Abenico Morapedi was impressive in the match, pulling off several saves to keep the score respectable. The victory gave the Kgatleng giants their third title in four seasons. The winning coach, Mike Sithole said they won the league through collective effort. “It is a miracle to have won the title looking at the players we have,” he said. Dubula Dubula said he rotated the squad because of injuries, therefore he was grateful for everyone who played a part. “At one point, (defending champions) Rollers took the lead by beating us in the first round but because we believed that the league is not over until its over, we turned everything around in the second leg by beating them to regain the lead,” he explained.

The captain, Pontsho Moloi hailed everyone for working so hard to win the title. “We had ups and downs, but we had to do what we had to in order to win,” he said.
