Murder, suicide leave Chadibe residents in shock

The man from Mabesekwa village is said to have hideously assaulted a woman and stabbed her to death before setting fire to a house that burnt down, killing a three-year-old child inside it. The police say the man then brutally beat up another woman and a 10-year-old child before committing suicide in a nearby bush.

The acting commander of Tatitown police station, Assistant Superintendent Seanokeng Nkau said the injured victims are admitted at Nyangabwe Refferal Hospital (NRH).

The suspect is aged between 35 and 45. Nkau said that the suspect is not related to any of the victims but they are his neighbours at Zezuru ward in Chadibe. She pleaded with members of the public that incase of problems, they should seek help from the police, elders, Dikgosi and social workers to avoid unfortunate acts causing death and injury.

Some villagers have said the man was in love with the injured woman who also comes from Mabesekwa. It is said a misunderstanding arose between the man and his alleged lover after he accused her of infidelity.

Things took a turn for the worst when the man trailed the woman to the bush where she had gone to collect firewood and noticed footprints from boots he thought belonged to a man who was having an affair with his alleged lover.

From the bush the man is believed to have interrogated his girlfriend about the shoe prints before a heated misunderstanding erupted leading to the bloody events.

The suspect allegedly beat the woman and stabbed her with a knife. The woman ran and sought help from her female friend in the same neighbourhood with the man in hot pursuit. It is said that in the ensuing struggle, the two women fell down. Thinking that the woman she was after is dead, he proceeded to kill her friend. He then went to the alleged lover’s house and burnt it down causing the death of her three-year-old.

The other child inside the torched house managed to escape but sustained serious injuries and is currently hospitalised. The child who escaped from the burning house belong to the man’s alleged girlfriend.
