Various players in the corporate sector also gathered in Ghanzi to commemorate the annual event.

It was a night of celebration of unity in diversity as the girls came from the Ghanzi settlements of Kole, Tsootshaa, Karakubis, Qabo, and Ncaang to compete for the top Mascom prizes.

The queen walked away with lucrative prizes; including P900 worth of airtime, P600 worth of Mascom hampers, Huawei tablet, Huawei smartphone, camp chair, jacket, and P400 worth of makeup hampers among others.

Her runner-up, Game Abigail Tommy, was rewarded with a Huawei tablet, smartphone, P600 worth of Mascom airtime, merchandise, and P400 worth of makeup hampers, while the second princess, Lebeilwe Boikanyo also won a tablet, smartphone, P600 worth of airtime, P400 worth of makeup hampers and other merchandise.

There were also special prizes for Miss Personality and Miss Creativity, as well as consolation prizes for the rest of the girls as they walked away with P400 worth of makeup hampers, camp chairs, merchandise, P200 worth of airtime, and ZTE R290 phones.

It was a long night of cheering and feasting of the eyes as the beautiful contestants showed-off their assets in traditional gear, hot-pants and Mascom t-shirts, swimwear, and Mascom promotional fashion wear designed by the contestents themselves.  They also paraded in long evening gowns before the panel of judges brought the girls down to the final five.

Mascom took all the measures to ensure that the event was truly representative of the mobile phone company as the main sponsor.

The stage was professionally erected for the event and branded with Mascom colours, while the interior of the community hall that hosted the event was also yellow the company’s corporate colours.

Makgabe by Makwakwa was on repeat mode for the girls to parade to in turns for their traditional attire.

Amantle’s hit, Moratiwa was also on repeat mode during the evening wear parade. As it was played on repeat, attendants showed appreciation for the hit by the former My Star contestant, which at first may sound like another of those South African jazz songs.

The Mascom event did not only expose the local music. A local Ghanzi entertainer, Lebensento Benson, twice mesmerised the crowd with his acrobatics showing-off his flexibility and graceful movements to the rhythm of the beat.

Ghanzi kwaito outfit, P.Didi & Mchova, did a kwaito version of Mrena O Ba Etele. There were also local rap and dance performances, while the DJ of the night also made sure that he played a kwaito song from a Ghanzi group that raves about the area’s cultural diversity.

It was also a night of hampers for the crowd, as the event sponsors dished out tens of hampers to some lucky members of the crowd.

At the entrance, people were also given free Mascom simcards.

The proceeds of the well-attended concert will be donated to a remote area pre-school of Paulo’s choice, some 30 kilometres from the settlement of D’Kar, according to Mascom.
