Orange Letlhafula introduces Celebrity cook-off challenge

The challenge would see the public voting for their favourite personalities as well as socialites participating in the challenge for the ultimate Orange Letlhafula dish.

According to the organisers, the new feature will bring more excitement to the event as most local celebrities may have little or no knowledge on how traditional dishes are prepared.

“We have big plans for Letlhafula. This event is not only about the food and beverages, it is also about embracing our culture and learning how to prepare these dishes,” sponsorship coordinator at Orange, Mosarwa Molema said.

“Next year we are looking at a celebrity cook-off challenge where local celebrities, who will be chosen by the public, will team up with Orange Letlhafula cooks for the Orange Letlhafula best dish.”

Molema further explained that the celebrities will be taught by the cooks on how to prepare the dishes and the processes, but that is as far as it will go, the celebrities will on the day prepare the dishes themselves and the winner will be chosen by the audience.

“This does not mean that the women themselves will not prepare the traditional dishes, they will do so, but we are also introducing a portion where the personalities will be competing,” he said.

Molema told Showtime that they have also teamed up with youthful radio station, Yarona FM to enhance culture awareness within the youth.

“Yarona FM is also going to be a partner in the future plans we have lined up for Letlhafula. The station, which prides itself in being the best in terms of youth listenership will come a long way in teaching the youth about the importance of our heritage and culture,” he said.

Orange Letlhafula took place on May 9 at Botswanacraft, its traditional host place. In its 15th installment, the cultural event was once again packed to capacity.
