She beat competition from 11 finalists to take the title at Tsholofelo Hall on Saturday night.

Even though load shedding delayed the start of the pageant, the contest soon unfolded as planned. The event organised by the Broadhurst Police Station and Women Police Network, started with a performance from Sedibeng Traditional Group. They graced the stage with their music and dance, which combined the famous phathisi and tsutsube dance moves.

Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for when the 11 contestants came on stage.

The young women began the proceedings by dancing to the popular Kelly Khumalo song, Asine. The first round was casual wear; giving the contestants the chance to strut their jeans and vests.

Then the finalists changed to traditional attire to showcase the splendor of African clothing from Sesotho, Setswana, Swati and Kalanga. The final leg was eveningwear, which showcased glamour and beauty in abundance.

Then came the crowning moment, which left the top three contestants overwhelmed by emotions. Mokgweetsi emerged as the winner and walked away with a Samsung camera worth P1500.00 and 6 months free music lessons.

Kemmonye Makgophe became first princess while Tshepo Taukobong was crowned the second princess. Mokgweetsi was crowned by the 2014/2015 winner, Patrick Seipato. In an interview with Showtime, Mokgweetsi said she was taking part in the beauty contest for the first time.

“Looking at the competition today, I didn’t expect to win,” she said. Mokgweetsi said the title would motivate her to concentrate on the mission to push women affairs and help the needy.
