Stupid meet Dumergo

Get Hard is in theatres delivering all the absurdity one can think of.  Kevin Hart is the rising superstar of comedy right now and his magic just keeps getting better.

He thrilled us in Ride Along (2014), and The Wedding Ringer (2015).   Now he is back playing a more hilarious role, which will leave anyone watching the movie in stitches.

Get Hard features Will Ferrell as convicted billionaire, James, who faces a prison sentence. The movie is fun-filled, and full of surprises. Interestingly it is the work of Etan Cohen, who was making his directorial debut.

When millionaire James King is nailed for fraud and bound for San Quentin, he turns to Darnell Lewis to prepare him to go behind bars. Little does he know that there isn’t that much of a difference between him and his mentor, and Darnell’s help lends him in hot water. How long will they keep up?

Get Hard is very vibrant as it kicks off with an Iggy Azalia Fancy tune complementing Ferrell’s naughty behaviour. Most importantly, the film is wa funny judging by the tickled Masa audience, as well as yours truly, on premiere night.

Such hilarious moments include James making cowardly screams for help whilst in his car because of Darnell’s sudden knock on the car window, trying to hand back his car keys. The language used is explicit with too much use of profanities. The relevant extreme language scene that can paint a picture for you is this part from an angry conversation between the two, “I almost sucked a d*** because of you”.

The other aspect of this film, which contributed to the magic is the fact that it uses irony as its potent weapon of humour, which then leads us to the next point of standout characters that shone brightest in the movie. James’ transition from a soft lighthearted billionaire into a rough violent man was phenomenal. Have you ever seen a white man wannabe rapper? If not then check out this movie as only a white boy rapper will call himself Mayonnaise and compare himself to Lil’ Wayne.

Hart left the audience in stitches when he tried to practice his prison life at home, calling his wife abusive names, who in turn rewards him with hot slaps.

Movie quotes, which indicate the film’s crazy humour include: Ferrell (James): “Please don’t sexually assault me, my heart’s already been raped.”

Now turning our attention to the movie’s box office reception. Get Hard officially graced cinemas on March 27, 2015 and premiered at the number two spot with an opening weekend reception of $33 million coming from a $40 million budget. The movie has gone on to amass a current global gross of $102 million, which is quite impressive. The film is on its first week in Botswana.

The week’s leading movies in cinemas sees Avengers overtake Fast 7 at the box office chart.
